Default exhaust heatshield question

Ok I have a 95 civic hatch and i was wondering if its extremely important to have the exhaust heatshields in place. The reason why im asking is because my heatshield by the gas tank was really badly rusted and came off its bolts, sat on my exhaust pipe, and rattled like crazy. I ended up taking it off because it crumbled to pieces when I tried pulling it. So should I get a new heatshield or can i just leave it like that? Any info is greatly appreciated.

If you dont plan on doing anything to the car than leave it be. It`s not hurting anything being there. But If you dont want it on there, there are four bolts holding it on. You will also have to remove the O2 sensor from the header to get it completly off. A 5 min job if that.

It's not the one in the front by the shift linkage that came off though. I pulled on that one and it was pretty sturdy. The one towards the back by the gas tank where the first bend in the pipe is. Thats the one that came off and being that its next to the gas tank I'm wondering if I should get another one to put there or if I can just leave it like that
