97 Accord EX shaking when accelerating
It happens every time there is acceleration involved. Let me begin by saying that the car is manual. When I first got the car the whole front end was shaking when accelerating and I though it could be axles and just got those replaced a few days ago and part of the issues went away. Now every time I start off from a stop my car's steering wheel shakes violently (as if I am turning quickly and lightly left and right) after about 1500 RPM to about 3000 at all throttle positions. It happens in all gears, except for 5th sometimes. I just did a run to about 4500-5000 RPM in all gear while pressing the gas about 75% and it shook trough all gears. I am thinking that it could be mounts or clutch and flywheel. The car has 200k miles and I have no idea how old the mounts are. I also have no idea what condition my clutch and flywheel (and those could be warped) are in. Any suggestions? How can I check if my mounts are bad?
Could be your tie-rod ends. If you can, take off the wheels and grab the tie rod and see if there is play somewhere in the joint or the inner part. You can also have someone wiggle the steering wheel as well while looking at it.
Or it could be your wheel bearings as well. I had a vibration in my front end, and it turned out to be the wheel bearings. I replaced both sides, as well as throwing on nice new rotors and the problem went away. To diagnose, lift up the car, and shake the wheel. If you have excessive movement it may be the bearing.
