Just Got NASA Rookie Permit, First Race, Video.
Just did my first race last Sunday after several years of open tracking and NASA TT with an Evo 8. I'm Racing a Prelude now, Ran in H2. 175 WHP, 141 TQ, the usual H2 Set-up, Kaaz LSD, 3011 suspension, etc. It was fantastic Fun! So much better than just turning laps in TT. I was Cautios, just wanted to finish clean. The Race was at Thunderhill, in Willows, CA. Only 4 HC cars out of the group of 50+ cars. The four of us ran within .3 of a second of each other re: fast laps. You can't see it in the vid below, but with 2 laps to go I was punted off track by a wild man in a Thunder Roadster. Again, great Fun, and Thans to Vic Chalk, Brian Z, and Bob Gill for thier Welcoming and help.

Good Job on your first race...Being safe out there as a rookie is important.
Did Brian give you the rookie speach before you went out?
I remember mine like it was yesterday.
Brian said...
"Stay out of trouble, scan your mirrors, stay on your driving line, and dont leave the track.
You are out there to finish the race.
and not get noticed by the race stewards.
Get your 8 races signed off, and they dont watch you as close."
Count those honda dollars! cha ching.
I havent made it out to a race yet this year.. (street car is tying up my race money at the moment.)
Brian came out what about two months ago to retech my car, and im just laggin!
I hope to make it out in early sept or sometime sooner.
The HC guys are good peoples, you can learn lots from them.
Hope to see you out there soon too!

Looks like a blast and good first race. Clean up some of the downshifts and some spots where you could have gained some ground on guysin front... but that goes with the "need to finish the race" theory. Very smooth!
You are absolutely right...good advice! I really lost time in the corner before the straight, should have been in second gear, short-shifted on some other downshifts, etc. But it will come. I was just glad to be in the hunt and not blown away. The real racing will come with time. Thanks for the encouragement!
We had Meris down here for a couple of weekends, wish he could have participated on more events, "hope you do well in the Nats Meris and have fun bud."
For the guys on Nor cal , buttomwillow is almost as far as for the guys that come from San Diego, so is half way. So , cmon down.
We would love to have you here, the more , the merrier, and bring some of the guys from up there.

Firstly, great job in your first event Percy! You are progressing well in the car and you'll be a force to deal with with a little more seat time in the car. Leaving a bit of time through large sections of the track, but overall, you are doing great! Keep it up!
I'm going to guess that it's 1, CW, but that's honestly just a guess on my part!

I can say from my experience with them they tend to be more aggressive drivers, as well as the legends cars.
One reason is they are soooooo damn fast they are on your behind in an before you know it.
I recall a similar car in the SCCA racing school it was a legend chassis with a 2007 Mustang body.
The car was pure evil.
Many drivers were being pushed off their driving line by this car.
I dont know if it was the driver being silly but many would alter their line in the turn to get out of his way.
I never let him squeeze me offline though. If he wanted pass me, and I was in the apex of a turn he would have to get past me coming out of the turn.
Which was never a problem since the car would move past us like we were standing still.
Common sense and vision when coming up on a rookie car (orange square on bumper) that one should excercise caution when attempting a pass.
Its obvious they dont have as much experience so it is best to catch and pass on track out rather than dive bomb a rookie and risk a collision.
However that doesnt always happen, some experienced drivers think they can squeeze in the smallest of opeinings.
