how high have u reved you car in a miss shift?
the other night I was goign bout 8 and I was realyl tired and ended up gogin from 5th to 2nd the tach went to about I'm guessing 9.5 or 10 I dind't get an accurate reading as obviously I had other things to worry about then see how high it reved. But it seems liek everything is OK this was like a week or ago. I thought I would have bent something but the motor soudns normal and it seems to run OK. but I was jsut curious how high peopel have gone running the stock valvetrain. I know it can take a beating but I wasn' sure how much.. none the less I don' plan on doingthat again =/
...most people on this board have major valve bending going on if they mis 5th to 4th. This was a common problem with M3's. If the car runs fine and has no problems then u got lucky!
No harm.......keep going
I missed my 4th to 5th shift at redline. I went into 3rd. I calculated the RPM's to have been 10,500. I ended up with 8 bent exhaust valves.
I think it was miraculous but my friend was driving my car (94 LS) and was downshifting from 5th to 4th when he fugged up and went into second....the tach needle literally almost spun all the way around...it was definitely 10 probably 11,000 rpms. O btw, I was trying to teach him how to drive stick in my car...wasn't a good idea. So me being stupid, I let him continue to drive and he does it again....exact same thing. The crazy thing is that afterwards my motor was completely fine. I actually took her in though to have it check out and the shop said it was totally fine. The following week I took her to the track and clicked off the same quarters that I usually run. Amazing imo for an LS to handle that. Stupid of me to let him drive my car.
at what mph were you driving when shifted? (8? - 80) .. and how long was the shift... 9500rpm is bad enough... i think ~ 9100 is where you'd want to stop

hmm.. at 80mph... it would be around 10500 in 2nd... minus 100rpm for every 1mph... depends on how fast you reacted, if you didn't let the clutch out right-away and went out of the gear fast enough before it hit high point... otherwise its a good idea to check valves etc..
missed shift once from 3rd to 2nd. don't know what rpms its went but i did remember shift at 8500 rpm in third and went to 2nd
. however, engine ran find but my stock type-R pressure plate fell into pieces, so i had no clutch pressure. broke down about a mile from the house. but lately i've been burning oil. don't know if its some valve seals or rings.
http://www.civicperformance.com/vids/MOV00016.MPG the footage is 15 sec. long taken by myself. its a 2k civic Si driven by a friend. The driver redlined 3rd and shoved it back to 2nd. It amazes me the engine survived after 13k so rpm. His shift point was at 8800rpm at the time due to a ctr ECU. He was able to drive his car afterwards. Next day we took a compression test and it was within specs. We followed with a leak-down test and it too was with in specs. We just down know how it survived!? We know there was metal colision and valve float as heard from the audio. The engine has never been opened or modified internally. We also have dyno figures before and after the mis-shift. The car is putting out more hp than before!
This happened a year ago. We took off the head for some P&P and there is no indentation of valve markings on the pistons at all.

When I still had my 00 Si I accidently went from 4th to 3rd too (long day)... buried the tach. however, i jammed the clutch in quick. you talk about a scare from hell! i'd only had the damn thing for about 2 months! all of us got pretty lucky if you ask me. i never could see how someone could do it until i did it myself
Well my apexi was frozen at it's max 9999 so not sure but was way up the needle in 5th but went to hit 4th for to really blow buy a friends prelude and well I sure blew by him alright
. Only dammage was bent valves but pretty much all of them with spec-A's. Replaced all the valves and buttoned it back up runs good as new probably better than before and I asked machine shop to not mill the head just a very light touch to so I could get a nice seal on the new gasket.
Tough motors these B-series. Don't let me tell you what happens when you screw up like that on the new k motors but a grenade going off in the motor about says it

Oh remember most everybody thats gotten lucky has been in gsr's or Si's because the cams are much milder than Type-r cams but sooner or later it could happen to you just always constrate on the shifts it could get exspensive

when i used to power shift a lot i missed 2nd to 3rd and reved it out to about 9800 and ended up with about 8 bend valves.
No more power shifting for me...
No more power shifting for me...
redline 3rd to nothing......9500rpms, scary **** (felt like the car total stalled and the engine was stressed, never wanna hear that again)
missed 3rd to 4th at redline and it went into 2nd. needle on the auto meter was bouncing off the silver square thing that you adjust stuff on, and the needle on the tach was about 3/4 of an inch past 10 on my moms R. i was soo ******* scared..lucky i didnt bend any valves..car still runs perfect. loudest noise i have ever heard in my life
