Default 2004 Honda Accord GPS won't work in cities, keeps screwing up...

New to the group, so feel free to direct me to any previous threads on this topic. Spent a few minutes looking around for such, and got overwhelmed.

My 2004 Honda Accord LX is a dream. It still purrs like a kitten, and looks brand new. The only problem is the GPS/Navigation system. About two years ago, it started to become unreliable. When I venture too close to (or into) any major city (San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc.), it starts to screw up. It also happens from time to time in the suburbs, with no particular pattern.

It sometimes just FREEZES, then can't figure out where I am, forcing me to go through that tedious process of "telling it" where I am, only to have it screw up again moments later. Other times, it tells me I'm on a different street entirely or that I'm on an unmapped road.

The other features of my head unit work fine (radio, XM radio, touch screen, voice commands, etc.), and I've updated the CD-ROM that fits into the unit in the trunk, leading me to believe that the problem might lie with the antenna. Does anyone have any input on this? Has anyone else had this problem?

I took it in to my nearby Honda dealership and described the problem, and after taking it out for a drive (and of course, it worked perfectly for them!), the gal said, "All we can do is replace it. They're $2,000." I said, "Thanks for the advice, honey, but I'll pass."

given that you are running the most recent update, the antenna makes the most sense. its 89 bucks and likely quite easy to replace.
