im having idleing issues after a problem with my egr. i cleaned it but unsure if i got all the crap out of it and im still getting my exaust gas recirculation code when i scan it. now after doing that my idle is staying at 1500 in park and neutral. i broke off i plastic piece thats connected between the air filter and throttle body that hooks up to a cicular small peice north of the EGR unit. not sure what it is but if someone could specify and explain what it does and how it affects my car. its the hose on the top of it and the bottom hose goes into my engine between the 4 fuel injectors. im also getting a few other codes which include catylatic converter emissions and tourqe converter solenoid circut....

can you guys give me a hand because i dont have much expierence with honda accords and have been fixing it myself. thanks to all in advance much appreciated because its KILLING my gas. im getting 10 mpg now from getting around 30 last week

 

You obviously have multiple issues. Take some pictures of what you broke. It sounds like you got a vacuum leak now.

 

what would a vacum leak do? the plastic is so brittle it just snaps off

 

its about 5 am right now and my cammera phone doesnt have flash even though its a $150 android phone. how stupid.

 

IF whatever you broke opened up the intake system it's going to idle high because you have excessive air going into the engine.

Did you replace the egr gasket and make sure you scraped all of the old gasket before putting it back together and putting a new gasket on ? They sell gasket scrapers at Walmart in the tools section made by Stanley. It's like 5 bucks.

 

i didnt replace the egr gasket i just took it off cleaned out the holes and put it back on. same thing with the intake manifold with those egr holes.

 

It depends on how bad you disturbed it. If you were able to remove the egr valve and be sure it was not disturbed you could probably get away with not replacing the gasket.

 

what would the effects be if it was "disturbed"? thanks for your help man. i appreciate it

 

If when you took it off and put the egr valve back the gasket doesn't seal that would cause a vacuum leak. An egr gasket is like 3 to 5 dollars from any auto parts store.

 

alright i guess i might as well replace it. what about the tourqe converter solenoid? i heard thats a huge problem. what action should i take with that because thats a major concern for me

 

I'm not really an auto tranny guy. I'll have to leave that for the experts in that area. Get those pics up when u can.

We need a picture man!By the way,was the idle high before you cleaned the EGR or after?The plastic piece that you broke off might be an EGR solenoid.I don't remember your car set up so if you could post a picture it will help a lot.

you can see where the hose is hanging and also connected to the air duct and the piece on the left that it broke off of.

 

That really isn't a good camera, but I think if can you take some more pics from different angles someone will be able to see it.

 

This is the hose that alowing the vacuum to open the EGR.Try blocking the hose with a bolt.You did created a vacuum leak once the car warms up.The EGR valve is inactive now but by blocking the hose your vacuum should stabilize.Give us some news.

 

those pictures are pretty clear. im going to the junk yard tomorrow to see if i can grab the vacuum and some plastic pieces to reseal the vacuum seal. whats the plastic piece called hooked up to the center or fuel injectors 2 and 3? its also connected to the bottom of the vacuum.

Joshua those pictures really aren't clear at all they are blurry and at all sorts of angles without much aspect to the viewer.

However, that said here is a diagram of what you have broken, I'm still trying to locate the actual part and its name which should help you in its replacement.
