Hey guys, Just wandering some garage sales this morning, and came upon this awesome cutting saw. I had never seen anything like it and for $100 I couldn't pass it up!



What is it you ask? It's a Peerless Machine company hack-saw!



I believe it was built sometime in the 50's?

Got everything including the electrical stuff. Plus a massive Electric motor thown in for free.

It looks rough, but everything seems to work well (dunno about the coolant pump). Ideally I'd like to pull it apart and rebuild it to look like new. It should be a good workable saw though for now. Makes my little HF bandsaw look like a toy :cool:

I absolutely couldn't help picking this thing up! I don't know about you guys, but any machinery from that era is simply awesome. Usually it looks like it can withstand a nuclear bomb, plus it is just so unusual.

I'm sure there's a few of you out there who knew what this thing was, any help with the history on this thing?

I've searched online and apparently I can send the serial # in to the company and they'll let me know more about it. Pretty cool.

I think the reason I love machines like this is that it reminds me of an earlier time when Manufacturing was a way of life. Some dude worked with this machine all day building who knows what sort of things :biggrin:

Those old power hacksaws are pretty cool looking, blades are hard to find around my area though.

i've had one of these for a few years now (different make). mine even has an auto shut off limit switch. i've used it once. it is tucked away behind my lathe.

 

Yeah, that's cool but, when you gonna update us on that bike?!
