Springs popping out of clutches?
I recently was having problems with my trans being stubborn going into gear or not going into gear at all. The pedal will start to get a little spongy and it will gradually get more and more difficult and idle higher for some reason. First I checked the hydraulic system and replaced the slave cylinder and it seemed better for about 2 miles then it started doing it again. I pulled the trans off and I find one of the springs about to pop out of the clutch. I replaced the clutch with a used clutch and new throwout bearing. I take it for a ride and it engages smooth but slips a little at high rpm, its my daily so I dont really care about that. I have put about 30 miles on it and its already starting to give me the same problems as the last clutch, did I pop another spring? My friend went through 3 clutches within a couple months cause he kept popping springs out of his clutches, and I just want to know what could be causing this. My old clutch was a Competition stage 2 clutch, that I had for about 30k miles with no problems till this. My new clutch is a unknown disc with a stock b series pressure plate, not what I wanted but it was only 60 bucks and im broke. I cant afford to keep replacing clutches so any insight to this problem is appreciated. I dont know if it matters but the car was converted from auto to manual by me.
Well if it is slipping..its probably got just as many miles as your original and the same thing could have happened. Or possibly lower miles but, hard miles. So anything is possible and there is only one way to find out. Pull the trans out and check the clutch. Now if you had put a new comp clutch and had the same issue than I would say there may be another issue at hand. But since you replaced it with one that is already slipping and has unknown brand and mileage..its kinda hard to say?
