Learning to Mig weld for auto repair?
Is there anyplace you could possibly go to learn how to weld? Besides an actual trade school. Im wanting to learn how to weld to get into some body work myself and not have to pay out the butt for someone else to do it. For instance if I had to put on a quarter panel or something. Also would it be better to start with mig or tig. I can half *** mig weld. Not the best looking but it works lol. Tig I have never tried. Decent at arc welding.
I hate to say it, but getting into this so that you can "do things cheaper" is the WRONG reason.
You think you pay out the butt for them now, but to do a simple quarter panel fix the right way yourself you will need.
1) A welder
2) Grinder and correct wheels
3) "Bondo" and all sanding equipment
4) air compressor, paint gun, paint
5) a paint booth
Much of this is extremely expensive. Professionals have footed the bill so you don't have to, you just have to pay them a small margin of what that bill was to get a job well done (hopefully) and your car back quickly.
Learning how to weld is not easy, cheap, or fast. Do it because you love it, or just leave it to the pros.

Ditto. It is practice that makes you confident. Look on craigslist for people willing to teach you. I did a crash course in 3 hours and I went out and bought myself a Lincoln 175, its been fun.

There is also all kids of Youtube vids and DVD that you can buy. Welding is really not that hard, it's just understanding what a good weld is. If you are not welding with gas, do so! I started out with Flux core and it really sucks.

The most important tool is sandpaper, if you cant use it you'll get no where.
