I have a 1989 Civic Dx hatch. When i turn on BOTH the heat and the A/C, I hear a loud continuous noise from either the A/C or heat. I am living in Florida and I have no problems having no A/C, but I have a baby on the way and I am going to need a car with it. I really don't want to sell it, mainly because it runs great and that is the only problem. I can text video of what I am talking about also. My mechanic said it needs a new A/C compressor, but he didn't look real hard. Plus it makes the same exact noise when the heat is on He said it would cost me $800. Anyone wanna weigh in with their thoughts? Thanxxx.

 

Is the noise you speak of coming out of the dash...or is it coming from under the hood???

 

the shared variable between both the a/c and heat would be the blower motor itself. does the noise change as you adjust the speed?

 

The noise appears to come from inside the car, but I'll double check tomorrow. The noise changes from low to high, matching the setting. For example if it is on 2, it would be low and on the 2 highest settings it would be very loud.

 

sounds like you need a new mechanic! its got to be something with the blower motor, maybe some dirt or debris thats gotten in there! But $800. dang!
