Default 1992 Hatch suspension question

Hello all,

I recently bought a 1992 hatchback civic. I've since changed the oil, replaced the exhaust (too loud for my taste) and washed it.

Anyways, what I noticed about the car is, it tends to bounce really hard on bumps and ride really harsh. I know absolutely zilch about suspension, and was wondering where I should start and what I should replace to make the car ride more comfortably.

Note: I like the "low" car look, but don't care about it enough to sacrifice ride comfort for it.

This.

Also, what are you using the car for? Budget? Height goal?

I'm on progress CS-II 350lbs/350lbs. They cost $600, and i've been very happy with them daily driving and occasional track duty:

Sitting still I'm about 1 finger gap in front and rear. Maybe tucking a little tire in the front.

I think the stock suspension is what's on, but I'd have to check to be sure. I use it as a daily driver/transportation. Sometimes highway, sometimes stop and go. My goal is just to not have a ride that's as bumpy as it is.

If it's stock suspension then you've got some serious damage to the suspension components if the ride is harsh. Are you sure it's not lowered?

A good, cheap setup would be some Koni Srt shocks and a tein or H&R with a soft rate. ~300front 150-200 rear.

get a set of koni sports and find some used type r springs. if it's not low enough for you, the spring perch's on the sports are adjustable.

What you have is what happened to me, Over years/miles of use my struts went to crud and rode terribly, everyone told me they were probably "blown" (blanket statement), so i called honda and ordered some new struts and installed them the next week. Boy the ride difference between 188k mile struts and brand new struts is HUGE.
IN SHORT GET NEW STRUTS if you don't want to buy aftermarket.

if you go aftermarket then buy what the other posters have suggested.

Like I mention in my suspension choice writeup in my sig. There really aren't enough reasons to justify buying anything else than what I listed.

It's a great daily driving and entry level autocross coil over. If you're a quick learned you'll quickly outgrow the setup and need something a bit more aggressive for heavy autocross use. Seat time is still infinitely more important than a new suspension for me, but I look forward to upgrading next season after I get my engine swap done this winter.

What are you switching to, the koni/gc set up?

Once I get my swap done this winter, and paint in the spring, I'll be going with AMR for next years autocross season.

550F/450R and a 24mm rear sway bar most likely. Currently using a 22mm.

At the risk of going off topic, what engine swap are you doing, and what are you running now? Also, are you selling your current setup when you do your swap?

Instead of GOING off topic why do you not just ask him via a PM?
