Default re-building a 91 crx

hello im new to the honda scene and recently got my first car : a 91 crx HF with a vtec d16z6 sohc engine swap for $1550. it started out when we got it with an idling problem wich turned out to be the iacv needed to be cleaned out and then the BIG problem wheever youd let off the throttle it would buck like crazyyyy! (felt like i was riding a bull, 2 days in the mechanic to find out the dumbass that had the car before but a distributor on the cam that wasnt even intended for that engine plus the timing was as far off as humanly possible, $550 fixed that problem the car now runs good.I have many dreams for this car such as swapping in a dohc engine,re doing the interior carpet and plastic components ,repainting the nsx blue on the outisde and making this car into a keeper. on a bad note the exhaust smokes and theres an oil leak and me and my dad figure this car will probably break down within the next year ive loved crx's since i was a child and i finally found one i really like but what i am wondering is putting all this money in this car to make it my dream car really worth it? or do i wait till it breaks down and in the mean time earn enough money to buy a hatch or something when it breaks down? i can post pictures of it if someone can tell me how thanks

nice to hear you have picked up the car you have liked for a while. the d16z6 is a nice motor for that platform. if its running ok just keep running it. keep open to the idea of just keeping and running a sohc d series. it fits perfect in that engine bay, is good on gas mileage, wont overpower the brake system and is something you already have. im curious to know what transmission is in there . it sounds like the engine could be mixed up. find out which ecu is in the car.
