I've had both. V6 is faster hands down. my 5spd is more fun though :-)

If your looking for a problem free transmission. I would stay away from the V6 of that Gen Accord (98-01). The J series automatic transmissions in them are known for having issues. On the other hand the 5spd F23 has some get up and go in the low end. The F23 also has a lot more aftermarket support than the J30 does.

However, if you aren't looking for reliability and you are just looking for up front power. Go for the V6.

I test drove a v6 99 back in the day, that thing pulled hard on the low end and when vtec hit it was very smooth i wish i had a v6

My 2.3 automatic is very slow on acceleration get a 5 speed at least if you get a i4.

But on another note you could get you a v6 with a bad tranny and do a 6 speed swap thats what i would do get the 6th gen v6 accord cheap then the rest of the cash on the 6 speed swap

Go for the four banger in 5-speed. Do your own mods, make it as fast as you want.

F23a1 i4 is not fast even with a 5 speed its a 3100 pound accord lol,i wouldnt waste any money on mods if you do a 4 cylinder, even headers intake and exhaust and 600.00 dollars later you got 8 whp and probably wont even feel much faster on acceleration with all that air flow,Probably slower acceleration and barely if not any noticable top end but even then the giant 3.0 v6 auto will still tear it up nasty off the line and in every range with 200hp and 195 tq,i say find a v6 with a already rebuilt tranny because they do tend to break as everyone says but im sure there are some out there that were already warrantied and have no problems..........V6 ftw
