When you pull the stick up, it does not activate the motor for the power door lock. Why it makes the sound is because it is constantly unlocking and stuck in a unlocking loop until it gives up. The lock is still working fine, and it will do what you want it to. If you read the treads, you will see there is a rubber bump stop that tells the lock "okay, door is now unlocked, stop unlocking". It crumbles over time with the hammer hitting it. I use electrical tape and rebuilt mine, and its still going strong.

I have a 96 accord with a similar issue. The only difference is that the rear doors will lock and unlock, but when it wants to. @professorman, how would i know for sure if it's the door lock itself? Is the lock acctuator and the lock the same part? Thanks.

What do you mean "when it wants to"? Does it do it spontaneously when you are driving or when the car is parked? Or do you mean, it only works sometimes? It is sounding like some sort of electrical issue. You could test if the lock actuator is actually getting signal (current) to unlock/lock when you press the button.

The lock and the lock actuator are separate parts. All cars have locks, but cars with powered door locks have a little motor to pull the lock to open/close the lock. The actuator is that motor mechanism.

Did you hook the tab from the actuator onto the latch? Refer to post #8 in this thread:

Update: I replaced my door lock and actuator. They are working again. I have found that the long rod connected to the door **** is flexible enough to hook it to the lock while it's bolted to the door. Just make sure the clip is facing the right way (the long side should be facing you when looking inside the door from the top).
