Engine swap question....93 accord
Warning: noob question and i know it is...dont point out the obvious...just need it explained...and yes i did use the search bar and nothing came up..searched several times
Ok so i have noticed how everyone who owns a civic can or will interchange parts from integras...such as B18, B20, B16, gsr, ls, etc...Whereas..everyone who owns accords swap over the H22, H23, prelude motors blah blah blah....So i guess my question is...why is this? Is it just easier to swap the integras to civics and preludes to accords?? I have seen few civics that have a H22 in them but it is very rare...Anyways i was considering swapping in a B18 into my 93 accord but i know its not impossible to do it but would it just be plain simplar to find parts for a h22 swap rather than a B18?? anyways just curious thanks to whoever answers....

yeah like DCFIVER said, within reason, all B-series are smaller than what you currently have stock in the 93 accord. swapping from an F22 (2.2L) to a B18 (1.8L) you would quickly realize that the torque curve of the B18 is a little inadequate for the larger accord chassis even though max power is higher.
to the point though, Civics and Integras share many chassis hard points so the swaps are pretty straight forward. for the Preludes and Accords similarities go even deeper. the F22s and F23s in the Accords are in general iron sleeved, single cam versions of the H22 and H23 or vice versa... however you want to look at it. so it's little more than a straight swap. bolt in and go.
as for the civics with H22s.. these didn't come along without a lot of research, tinkering and custom parts ...that are now available to the masses. the driving force being the need for more power potential (larger displacement; more specifically more bore area which dictates the max total valve area) and the desire to be unique of course.
to sum up, if swapping is where you're headed you're only real options are the H22 and H23. there are other H/F-series variants and "frankenstin-ed" set ups.. but start simple. any of the "small block" engines (B-series, D-sereies...
) would not be an upgrade for your Accord and would be loads of custom work.
welcome to the world of Hondas, enjoy!
