What sort of sealant for headlight & city light questions
Hey guys,
I'm going to be doing an HID retrofit in my 99 civic over the weekend. Out of curiosity, what sort of sealant should I get when putting the headlights back together? Just because of the way I like to do things, I would prefer to use new sealant. If not, I know a lot of people who have re-used the old stuff already on the headlight.
Also, I'm trying to find some information regarding city lights but I'm not having any luck.
- How is it the city light socket goes into the head light? I know the hole is already there and you just have to cut out the plastic, but does it turn and lock in place?
- Also, I'm assuming that the city lights are wired to the factory turn signal bulb? Black to black and red to red?
- One last thing, is there any way to wire the city lights to turn off once the headlights come back on? Or does it have to be wired to a separate switch in order to achieve that?
Thanks in advance!

when you do your retro most likely you wont even see it since the shroud will cover it.. as for sealant, buy some window weld ribbon (butyl) at an auto parts store..
I bought mini H1 4.0 projectors off theretrofitsource. They're actually not big at all. Once I get them in, I'll decide whether or not I want to do city lights.
I also read that you can wire city lights to only turn on with parking lights and stay off with low and high beams. It requires a relay I guess? Couldn't find much info though beyond that. Guess I'll have to do a write-up if I ever end up doing them.
Thanks for mentioning the butyl stuff. I tried doing a quick search on Advanced Auto's site but nothing was coming up. I could always try different dealerships to see if they carry any.

so you are using the mini gatling gun?? if so then yeah i think the city light will show through.. to have the city light come on then go off, you will need to rig up a relay.. the city light usually stays on though..
Yeah mini gatling. Posted a pic in HID retrofit thread sticky. And yeah I noticed the city light will stick out with the projectors in.
Do you know where I can find a wiring diagram for the relay and such? I'm HORRIBLE with electrical work. I don't even know what a relay does lol. I couldn't figure how to wire it myself if my life depended on it.
