ok guys i have a quick question. why is it that the f22 in my 91 cb has a knock to it? i recently had all fluids changed and the plugs it only has 90 thousand miles on it. but i have a 97 ek hatch d15 and it dont knock at all with 164xxx on it. is it just that series motor or is it a sign that something is about to mess up

 

Does it knock when the engines hot or just when it's cold? Is the knock consistent with the engine RPM or slower??

 

To expand on this a little further.

If the engine constantly knocks, and the timing of the camshaft and distributor are in spec, then it could possibly be a bad rod or crank bearing.

However, if the knocking only occurs while cruising ~2000rpm then it may just be your EGR ports/valve are carbon clogged. A common enough problem when it comes to F22s.

Use a broom handle, large screwdriver, or extension from the engine to your ear to identify that it is indeed the engine making the knocking sound. Sometimes a faulty PS pump can make a hell of a racket under hood.

 

Ok its knocking from under the valve cover and its bad as soon as you crank it but it mellows out as the motor warms but it always has a knock to it

 

A knock or clack? If its clacking you will need to adjust the valves.

 

that may be it then cuz it's sounds like a little tractor when you first turn it on
