Default 99' LX Transmission issue?

Whenever I accelerate from being at a stop, there is alot of hesitation, the engine revs, and the car shakes and bucks. It takes a couple of seconds before it kicks into gear and then shakes. The shop I went to says that it is a tranny issue. I wanted a second opinion. I went on AutoMD and it said something about worn engine mounts. I'm thinking they were trying to rip me off. I checked other sites, and it said the majority of tranny issues can be fixed by changing the transmission filter. Nevertheless, I want to troubleshoot it some other way before I surrender myself to believing that the whole transmission needs to be replaced.

He also said that the transmissions with this particular year/model go kaput at around 100,000 miles. My model has about 84,000 miles. Is this true that the 99' LX has a faulty tranny after 100,000 miles? This will cost alot of money to fix if it is indeed the transmission.
