Default First post here. Need help with '98 clutch

Hello everyone! This is my first post here. I have a 5 speed 98 accord with 300,000 miles and today I noticed the clutch acting weird. This morning al was fine with the car, but after I came out from lunch and got out of the parking lot and got to the stop light, I noticed the clutch now has about 2 to 3 inches of play before I can feel pressure on the pedal. It will still shift just fine in and out of all gears. All of the fluids are full and there are no leaks anywhere. When I took it by the shop today, I was told that everything is techinally fine, but that the " anti rattle spring" is probably broke and that is what was causing the play in the first few inches of the pedal.

I am not the most car savvy guy out there, and it is 109 outside in Kansas CIty today so I didnt feel like going in depth about it at the shop. Does this sound right to you? Is the spring something I need to worry about? Is it complicated to replace and how can I see if it is actually broken?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Jeffrey

Could be the spring? Hope the pic helps in locating it for you, if I'm following you is should be #15. I'd be more worried about the clutch master or slave....or at 300K, is the clutch going?

Thank you so much for your help! You are exactly right, it is #15! I got under there and saw that the spring had slipped, it's back in place! At 300,000 miles I was thinking the same thing, so I was very relieved that it was just that spring. Again, thanks for the help!
