Default building a motorcycle powered 'gokart'

my buddy is giving me a motor/ecu/harness and necessary running gear off an 07 600RR.
i've always wanted to build something like the ariel atom, but lighter and using a motorcycle engine not a car.
biggest issue i see is transferring the power to axles as i would ideally like to run independent suspension and not a simple solid axle like your regular gokarts do. any thoughts?

you have a semi centered rear sprocket/hub assembly which then has cv axles inserted into either side, which then transmits power out towards the knuckles and your done.

You can either design something and get it made, or you can buy parts for it or a whole assembly. Look up places tha build mini sandrails. minibuggy.net should help you out a lot. Plus it has lots of eye candy and killer builds on the site so its easy to get lost.

just use a diff or spool and make a chain style ring gear for the chain and bam you got your independent suspension axles

Yes locostusa.com will have all your BEC and VFR/EFR answers.

A user by the name pook has built a couple reverse trikes powered by bike engines.
On one he used a miata diff and a sprocket and kept the chain drive I do believe.

Crxdan built this one with a 600rr engine. Then later modified an italkart frame that actually had brakes haha.

In something like this it won't handle well but it was still a ton of fun. The motor is just too heavy. A cr500 or crf450 motor would be sweet I think. Also run airfilters. He was running no filters and the tires kicked up a small stone and held the throttle bodies open.

the plan is to build something with full independent suspension/brakes, hopefully around 500lbs or so.

That looks like a formula sae car. And yes 600CC is more than enough for those types of karts. I've seen them first hand and when designed properly they can do 0-60mph in just over 3 seconds.

well, sae is limited to 600cc with a 34mm restrictor IIRC.
It will have enough power to be quick but don't expect it to be blindingly fast.

I have the motor from my R1 sitting in the garage and I have a friend with a spare shifter cart. Im thinking turbo 1000cc shifter cart... probably suicide but it'll be fun

Its a 20mm restrictor and 610cc.

What is blindingly fast?

1.7~1.8 lateral g's, and 450lb with 80whp is fast to me..

Taylor Race has chain driven differentials you can look into OP.
