Default CBR600 F3 forks: 95/96 VS 97/98

I need to replace both forks on my 1998 CBR600. I’m having problems finding 97/98 forks, let alone at an appropriate price. I’m now considering 95/96 forks but recall reading that the 97/98 forks were an upgrade over 95/96. I’ve gone through my Honda Parts fiche and the 95/96 have a different spring configuration than the 97/98 springs. The lower cases are also different.

So, are 95/96 forks basically “the same” as 97/98? If the 97/98 cartridge is an upgrade, can I put mine into the 95/96 fork body? Thanks.

What's wrong with your old forks? Unless they're bent, why don't you just rebuild them?
