Ca cat bolt on dc sport exhaust.
I live in california which sucks but I was getting ready to put on my dc sport bolt on full cat back exhaust. When I noticed the catalytic convertor and the exhaust had basically melded together so I took it to a muffler shop and they sad they could basically cut my exhaust and weld it to the old cat but it's a 400 dollar exhaust and I don't really want them cutting it. Now bolt on carb legal cats are expensive like 500 plus. Do i really have any options besides moving to another state. Was thinking of just buying a racing bolt on cat from eBay but is that going to make it crazy loud and it sounds goofy but are there any dangers of fumes going into the cab with the racings cats. Any help would be great thx.
wtf that shop is retarded. if the flanges will not unbolt from each other, have the shop cut about an inch back on the cat, have a new flange welded onto a 1" peice of pipe then have that bolted to the cat. viola, you can now bolt on your bolt on cat back
The exhaust probably didn't "meld" together. It's probably just super rusty. Cut the old bolts off or torque them off with wrenches and bolt on the new exhaust.
If the cat is super rusty, it may be ready to rust through and you may need a new one anyway. Take it off, save it for emissions testing if you can pass with it. Otherwise places like Summit sell high flow cats for like $100. They're not as durable as OEM, but much cheaper and you can use it to pass emissions and then swap your old one in after.

Lucked out yesterday I went out to my local pick and pull they had a wrecked 00 ex with 48,000 miles on it they pulled the cat off of it with the o2 sensor and sold it to me for 200. It's super clean and oem so now it's all bolt on. Going to slap it all on tomorrow.
