Default climate control ****

94 4 door LX

I just picked up the car this evening from a friend. Playing with all the ***** and switches on the way home making sure everything works.

The cold/hot **** to adjust temperature, when turned the right right (hot side) instantly springs back to almost full left (cold side). I don't entirely mind because its too hot to not have the a/c on but is this a possible issue of my overheating? maybe keeping something stuck open? I would assume to just replace the control panel but I'm just asking first in case someone has experienced this before I go buying new/used parts

New **** (maybe, they break-check it), then adjust the blend door.

Then please describe the overheating issue.....IMO they are not related.

I'll look into it, but do i have to take the dash trim off to change/check the ****?

I didn't want to get into the overheating when I posted this because I still wanted to search. I came up with a few things but I will tell what's going on anyway.

94 f22b2 auto ...

I can fill the system with water and drive .. maybe say 10 miles at best. Then it starts to get hot. It is totally empty by the time I get done driving and takes about a gallon of water in the system. I didn't see anything leak from the radiator (that's what the previous owner said was leaking, I don't feel that to be the case). The overflow reservoir is completely full with antifreeze. I got curious and checked it. I'm assuming possibly the water pump is leaking. And praying its not the head gasket. I can't really think of anything else to say .. but can answer anything if it is asked.

When you are changing that control ****, you are actually controlling the heater core valve in the engine compartment. Pull the **** and check to make sure the **** isnt broken and is actually turning the small shaft inside the temperature control. Make sure the cable that attaches from the control **** to the valve isn't being crimped or is stuck making the **** turn back as you mentioned. I guess also if the valve is stuck in one certain position, it will cause the **** to spring back like that as well. If this were the case, a replacement heater core valve is in order. Check the heater control valve cable mechanism for smooth operation with the temperature control **** in the dash.

To the OP: Forget the ****, I'd be more worried with what seems to be a leak!

If you are loosing coolant, there is a leak. Rent a pressure tester or something and find/fix/replace it......

The ****, pull it straight back....it will come off....Check the shaft for cracks.

There are two cables involved here. Ever read how to adjust the blend door on a 5th gen? So yes it could be the heater control valve but I'd check/test the "system" to be sure.

This morning when I stopped to get air in the tires I went ahead and looked under the car. I couldn't see much because even stock the accord sits pretty low. But I could see water dripping from the backside of the engine .. looks to be somewhere near the transmission.

Leaking water pump? The water doesn't just slowly drip, but doesn't flow like a river either. It's a pretty steady leak. I only drive to and from work and I add as much water as it will take before I drive it.

And my main concern is the leak yes, but I didn't know if the **** had anything to do with keeping something open possibly. But that has been covered and I will look into it later. It's stuck on cold now and its 100* all the time so I don't mind for now

Agree, the leak is most important. From the description, I'd inspect the hoses-there are a few of them so it will take some time. Try filling it up, crank it up, then watch/feel the hoses.

Do you mean the upper and lower radiator hose?

the water pump is located where the timing belt is. no , not the upper and lower radiator hoses. there are several hoses on the back side of the engine under the air intake plenum

I'll see what I can do. It's hot as crap outside and it's not too fun working on a car. I might just take it to a shop to have it on a lift to see everything better and then take it home to fix it

stopped in at a shop right by my apartments and asked how much they charged to toss my car on a lift and look under it to see if I/we could find a leak. No charge pulled it in and gave it a quick look. Turns out there is a busted hose from the front of the intake to the thermostat housing. I forgot the technical name for it but they called it a bypass hose.

I am going to try and go to Honda to get the hose and fix it tomorrow, then do a pressure test and see if its all good. I really really hope that's all that's wrong

Sounds like you got it, the upper and lower hose are/were in "play" here but as you have found out there are a "few" others as well.....good luck
