02 rsx failed smog, HELP!!!
the car ran fine, it passed everything but the smog tech said it failed due to the computer being reset. I had a CEL for due to a skipped chain about a month ago. I reset cleared out the CEL with my obd2 reader and the CEL never came on. The tech said somthing about driving the car for 100 miles non stop for the computer to start reading all the temps again. Has anyone ever had this problem?
so i ran the car for 120 miles non stop and it still didnt pass smog....its also my daily driver..smog test still said fail on mil/check engine light..is it because i have a bad ecu? its a 2002 base auto rsx...can i use a 05 civic si ecu or are the plugs different?
There are monitors in the PCM that check for certain parameters. If any sensor/condition exceeds those parameters, the monitors will double and triple check to make sure there is an actual problem. Once an actual problem is confirmed, the check engine light will come on. When ever you erase a code you reset the monitors. Part of the smog test procedure is to ensure the monitors are set. This way people cannot simply erase the MIL before getting a smog check. They will have to actually repair the problem rather than simply erasing the code. All OBD 2 compliant vehicles have monitors.
