LAW regarding emissions and sound...
Anyone ever get pulled over for sound or emissions? What is the penalty if an officer pulls you over and finds that you don't have a cat? Worst case scenarios?
It's a federal law, but I believe that the feds leave enforcement up to the state.
I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time.

ouch... that's a lot...
i'm in cali so... chances are it's that or worse.... hmmm...
How does the officer look for this? If the cat is burnt out... he wouldn't be able to tell? right?
is the 3k for sound? or emissions? I'm guessing emissions. If I'm correct, then what about sound? Fine? Fix it?
are points involved in this at all?

Over here you'll get a VI(Vehicle Inspection) Notice.
Gotta take your car in and replace all the stock parts. Not just the exhaust
.....
They pull people over for lowering, mufflers, tint, stickers, every god damn thing

According to the SEMA site, socalers don't pay fines as long as their exhausts measure at 95 dB or lower.
"Thanks to a new SEMA-sponsored law, California automobile hobbyists are now better equipped to fight unfair exhaust noise citations issued by state law enforcement officers...
The new law requires smog check stations that provide referee functions to perform the test. These referee stations will issue certificates of compliance for vehicles when tests of their exhaust systems demonstrate that they emit no more than 95-decibels, under Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) test procedure J1169. Only those vehicles that have received a citation for an exhaust noise violation will be permitted to submit their vehicle for the test.
The law also allows courts to dismiss citations for exhaust systems that have been tested and for which a certificate of compliance has been issued. Fees charged to motorists for the certificates of compliance will pay for the testing program."

putting a heatshield over your cat is not gonna solve ****. You can smell the fumes for half a block and last time I remember, cops have noses too.
what about replacing your cat before 50k miles in california? same fine?
carsounds are CARB legal.. but it's illegal to replace your stock cat unless it is damaged or over 50k miles...
i have gotten MIXED answers about carsounds too, WILL they pass smog on a stock engine?

if you have a hollowed out cat some cops will tap on the cat and it will sound hollow doubt that will happen because every day cops are the biggest ******* morons with cars for the most part. But beware if your at the illegals in cali cops know their **** there and will bust your *** for that ****. And yes it is 3g's max fine probably wont happen a few of my friends were sent to a referee for it and had to fix the problem.
