Blown Head Gasket??? HELP!!!!!
hey so i have a ek coupe with a d16y8 i blew the head gasket a while ago and it just has been sitting in my yard so would it be easier to just pull the engine and have it fixed or can i just replace the whole top end and leave it in the car i am on a budget to so it would cost less to just buy a need top end head and replace it but can i do that ??
PLEASE help me i want to know if its possible to just buy a new top end and take off the old one and replace it because that sounds easier thanks

well u can just buy a head gasket set as in new seals... but first u dont need to pull motor out... also are u sure u did not blow it up? if not. then pull the head off and check the pistons and check head.. if things are ok then put new gasket on and put back together and see how it runs.... whats oil look like? milk choc.. color? if so then def. blown head gasket... also how did u blow it... over heading?..... hope this helps.. but i did my self couple of times for customers its easy to do. will take a day to do.... also cost around 200 300 if i remember.... right... cause will need gasket set... coolent.. 2 rounds of oil... filter. probly should change water pump and timing belt since u will be right there.. if u wanted too... hope this helps some
ya im sure i blew the head gasket thanks and i had a mechanic look at it and he said to just rebuild it so to pull it and so im not sure what to do because it would cost like 1000 to rebuild but i was thinking would it be easier to just replace the entire head and top end
oh and if i wanted to take the entire top end off and put a new one on what head would go with my D16y8 any sohc head or what kind would go best ??
If the engine has many miles I'd go with your mechanics advice. A decked block and head will mate together better and probably lead to less heartache down the road.
By the time you yank all the stuff off you have to to change the headgasket, you could have pulled the whole caboodle out. Only drawback is a hoist is nice... and maybe an engine stand... tool for the balljoints...
