i have a uber dark gray paint, looks graphite in nature, but a few shades lighter. maybe a shade darker than gunmetal. then it has metal flakes in the paint, not alot, but enough to make it sparkle like gunmetal. I had it mixed for me, and i have about 1/2 a liter let. if you want it, let me know. I can make aerosol sprays from them. (8/12 oz each). I think i have enough for about 10 cans.

I used that same dupli color paint on my stern aguzze's, and it came out very nice. Just use a few light coats and move your hand back and forth quickly when you spray.

you gotta prep the wheels right or no paint will stick no matter what kind it is. you will get nasty flaking and chipping.

u mean sanding and primer and stuff? i read the instructions on the can, and it didnt say anything about primer... from my experience... most things metal (smooth) needs a coat of primer...

Duplicolor does a good job. Just prep by roughsanding, cleaning up with a tack cloth and then a coat of primer. Primer also makes the color look better too.

After that, several light coats with sanding in between if you have the time and desire. After the final coat, apply a few coats of clearcoat and the wheels will look great.

I've done several sets of wheels like this.

Duplicolor "Pewter"

i painted my HX rims using the "graphite" gray color. the color came out nice, and it holds up pretty well. i have driven about 3000 miles on it so far, and still no chips. here is a picture:

Here's mine. I did sand it a bit, and the paint has stuck pretty well (no primer), but it's flaking a bit around the outer edges (next to the tire mounting bead). I think this can be fixed by using aircraft stripper to remove everything down to bare metal (incl. factory clear coat) and then spraying. I will do this whenever I get the time.

I painted the wheels in July of this year. The paint has held up, although the paint is rather easily scraped off if you accidentally hit it with something, like I have done when I'm putting the lugs on. (My lug wrench barely fits into the stud hole on the wheel.) As for prep, I painted my wheels when they were brand new. I sanded them down using a very rough grit, cleaned off all the dust, then painted. I didn't use any primer. I used a few coats of clearcoat at the end, but it's only because I bought it ahead of time. You don't have to use clearcoat unless you want it to look really glossy. I have a few dark, crappy pics but they're at home and I'm at school right now.

Stock on left, duplicolor on the right. Just sanded, painted with two coats and finished with two coats of the clear coat, no sanding in between.
