leaves in my car or bad fan
so im new here and i also just got a new to me 98 civic lx.
I just noticed that the fan for the air is loud. It seems like a common problem and im hoping its just leaves.
The thing is that the fan gets louder when i set the air to recirculate and its not as loud when it isnt recirculating.
I also do not know what i am supposed to take apart to get to the fan.
Can someone give me a short step by step to check this? lets say that i am sitting in the passenger side seat and looking at my glovebox.
Where do i go from there?

It seems it's pretty common for these cars to spit leaves out of the vents if there are leaves in there. Then again, it didn't in my '98 EX.
If you drop the glovebox down (empty the glovebox and then press the sides in so it flexes so you can lower the glovebox and then remove the bolts on the underside of the glovebox hinges), you'll see a long rectangular black plastic panel with a sort of "handle" on the front. Remove that and you can see into the blower assembly.
Often leaves and other debris accumulate in that area. I vacuumed mine out and used a brush to gently remove anything stuck on the fins.
Since you have a '98-'00, you can use the DIY on here to add a cabin air filter into that spot if you would like.
I haven't personally changed a blower motor in one of these cars yet, but it appears it would be pretty simple (unlike the PITA '90-'93 Accord I had to do 2-3 times!). One you remove the glovebox the blower assembly is pretty much just all right in front of you.
I suppose your problem could be the blower motor, blower fan (the cage looking thing) or an obstruction.

sweet! thanks for the reply. I actually got impatient and went out and fixed the problem. It was leaves and instead of going into the glovebox, i took the screws out from underneath and took the fan out. There was a ton of leaves in there and as soon as i wiped it clean, the car was a lot more quiet and cooler.
Thanks for the tip for the diy section. i will definitely be doing that.
