Default Head Gasket Problem....

Car-89 civic hb
d15b2
mpfi converted

So i did a mpfi swap and replaced the headgasket and also arp head studs. When i finished everthing i started it up and it ran good but leaked a little bit of oil between the head and block in the front. Then after maybe a week someone must of swapped my motor with a sti motor..

Anyways the leaks got worse so i retourqed my head studs to 60 pounds as the arp paper says that comes with the studs and in 3 equal steps. 20-40-60 and in the correct order that the haynes manual gives. and yes i did the same thing the first time i tourqed them

I started it back up and it got worse and started burning oil too..

Then i let it run for a lil and the sti sound kinda stopped but its not running that good. and still burning oil and leaking from the front of the engine between the head and block. and possibly the back too

Idk what to do. could it be the head gasket? its a felpro from advanced or autozone. should i raplace it again with an oem one from honda?

suggestions or ideas?

Did you have to head checked to make sure it was straight before putting the new headgasket on? Did the car blow a headgasket before causing you to replace it?

I use FelPro head gaskets on my boosted setup and have had no issues with them.

I am curious... Did you use the ARP moly lube before you torqued them?

the motor was fine before i did the swap it didnt burn oil or anything but i couldnt get the manifold off without taking the head off so i had to replace the headgasket. I did not get the head checked or check it my self. I used the lube the came with the arp head studs, and only lubed the top of the studs like the directions say.

Check for leaks up top first. Always. Its more likely coming from somewhere like the valve cover gasket and leaking down. The oil will pool at the head/block seam, Giving it the appearance of leaking from there. Oil could be leaking down the spark plug tubes through worn grommets. This would cause misfiring or "running like an sti". Pull the spark plug wires and have a look at their sockets. They're probably covered in oil

that sucks dude. there's no reason to have to pull the head to swap an intake manifold.

i can't really think of why it would be leaking/burning oil so bad now if it was perfectly fine before.. did you remove all of the old gasket material before installing the new hg?

well Ive done the swap twice and both did the same thing. i took the head off because i couldnt get that middle bolt on the bottom on the manifold off. The first time i reused the head bolts so i thought thats why it did the same thing. Also both times i got all the old gasket off til it looked brand new.

Idk my brothers got another single cam sitting around so i guess ill just throw that in. Anyone want some arp head studs? 50 bucks. There still perfectly fine and basically brand new

oh and el crapitan i did check the sockets out and they are actually fine. I wiped up the oil and started it back up and i can tell its coming from between the head and block
