Default 96 Civic EX d16y8 Sounding like A Subaru/Boxer motor on cold start.

So yesterday and this morning started my car and it started sounded like a suby as i drove off, yesterday it cleared up after like 10 seconds then sounded normally after all day.

this morning i got the same subaru sound on cold start, drove it for about 3mins and then it cleared up and sounded normally, this seem to only happen only on the first startup of the day, but its only been 2 days so far since this sound came around.

Also my i got my head was just redone 2days ago, because my headgasket was toast and let to other damage, basically a complete head job, resurfacing, head gasket, seals, pressure checked, also had to do a valve job because they were leaking. ( the bad head before i had it caused shitty idle, bouncing between 1k-2krpms , couldn't hold boost.)

i've googled some information, and it seems ppl with this problem caused by misfire, but they have the sound all the time.

i only seem to be getting it right in the morning for a few minutes.
Also no CELS.

any ideas ?

Stock D16y8

Godspeed Turbo Kit t3/t4
460 CC injectors
tuned on p28/crome @ whitfield racing
about 194whp @ 7.5lbs psi

*Updates*

okay i noticed now that it just happens if the engine is cold (temprature gauge at the C), not just in the mornings anymore. it goes away after engine warms up.

WIERD o.O?

car also feels sluggish when its making that boxer rumble.. MISFIRE o.O?

*UPDATES 07/22/2011
after the car warmed up it still felt like it was doing the boxer rumble from up until 2.5krpms and it would clear up and sound normal o.O?

*updates* 07/23/2011
Okay, im getting the boxer sound 24/7 now from 1-2800ish rpms then it kinda clears up.

*updates* 07/23/2011
injector one clip seemed to be loose, pushed down on it, and the sound went away, so i zip tied it, went for a drive, seeme to clear up, we shall find out tomorrow morning to see if the boxer rumble comes back, GOOD BYE WRX BLOCK

*Updates 07/26*

Car been running great ever since, It was indeed the loose injector clip ;D

That turbo kit for one. Check your tune first. Do you have datalogging capability?

oh isee, how can the turbo kit cause the sound during a cold start? i was thought it was a more motor itself or spark/eletrical/misfire problem.

um im currently on crome, but im not sure if that supports datalogging, i have to look into it :/

No. The kit wouldn't cause it but Godspeed doesn't put me in the mind of quality when it comes to turbo kits.

updates: it happens when engine is cold, not necessarily only in the morning, for example shut the car off for like 4-5 hours, and the "boxer rumble" will come back.
but weird thing is, it goes back to normal after engine warms up,

also feels sluggish when its making the sound, MISFIRE o.O?

basemaps arn't perfect, my basemap ran like **** too, so rich, get it tuned at a shop.

um before it wouldn't hold boost, at around 5000-6000 rpms, it juss lagged there and wouldn't go over sometimes, found out my head gasket was raped... and cylinders were leaking, and had to get a valve job. LOL, ( the head gasket getting raped was caused by a fan not wired correctly so my motor was never properly cooled for a longgggggtime.) sometimes ppl just don't take care of their damn cars.

now it holds boost perfectly fine , but after the complete head job, this boxer sound problem started to occur, well not really too big of a deal, since it only happens the first liek 3mins of driving, but just wanan fix the problem and don't want it to lead to other problems :O

What spark plugs are you running? What are they gapped at?

If you're not throwing any CELs then my guess is that it's your tune.

Was it rebuilt to stock specs or did you upgrade anything?

just got head resurfaced, had to do a valve job because they were leaking or something, new headgasket, cam seals, pressure checked , no upgrades

I agree. check the tune. It sounds like you have timing or air/fuel issues in that rev range. once the engine warms up everything changes and your problem dissappears.
a typical misfire would be from bad electrical/fuel/timing. Check plugs and gaps. that will tell you how your fuel misxture is. Check your wires. if there is any type of cracks in the insulation, moisture could be causing a misfire untill the engine heats up and scares it all away. A bad distributer could be causing a miss in certain rpm ranges. hope that isnt redundant and helps.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM :D, injector 1 clip was kinda lose, i was pushing down on all the clips and i noticed, then when i pushed down on the clip, the motor sounded fine and when i relived the pressure, back to boxer sound, my temporary fix is zip tied the clip down..., well we will see if tthe injector clip was actually the problem
