f22b non-vtec jdm engine idle prob and misfire
Its a 97 HOnda oddy automatic with a swapped 2.2 liter, Jdm F22b sohc (I think from a jdm Prelude Si). In the mornings it will start ok but after warming up the engine shakes and when very hot intermittenly stalls (at red light) restarts again and keeps stalling at idle (unless I accelerate in park or cruise). I was driving yesterday and it died on me about 4 times and began to have a very slight misfire sound to it. When driving on the highway it seems as if its trying to die at random times as it feels like a slight misfire or loss of power (jerky). The issue is on and off and happens a few times during the week. At idle it may seem to have a very very small miss in it randomly. It seems like something is about to give and I wish it would..
I did get codes
P1491 (insufficient egr valve somethingg....) Ignored it at then got P1399, P0300-P3001-P3002-P3003. Codes mostly show up when car is idling (very jerky idle)
-I have changed plugs, wires, (but not cap and rotor) in the past 3 months.
-Checked timing belt to make sure it's at TDC
-Cleaned IACV and FTI
-REmoved and cleaned throttlebody
-I hear the fuel pump kick on along with the main relay.
-I dont think its an ignition switch although it acts just like it is. I tried starting it and holding the key in the on position and it didnt help.
- I dont know if it would be a coil, distributer, fuel relay, or whatever else?
I suspect one of two things: incorrect valve clearance or timing too advance (need to adjust idle ignition by moving dizzy forward - not sure how to do this). Reason I suspect these is because while running my TIMING ADVANCE remains between 25-45 (too high probably) and the AFR is at 14.2 even at 120 km/hour. The car is running too rich. Give 400 km (on highway) on a full tank (55Liters).
Also can smell gas when idling.
Honestly I am not sure what to check and how to go about diagnosing the problem

1) Check your EGR - clean it out
- follow the FAQ thread, its easy enough
2) run a compression test to ensure proper compression
- you will see the true health of the engine

Switch out the plugs ->> no more misfires.
However, car still with jump idle and stops when hot. O2 sensor running fine (checked with occiloscope). AFR at running rich (13-14 at idles) and 14.2-14.8 whie cruising.
Checked timing advance with timing light (snap on one). But moving the distributor either way does not advance or retard timing enough (to make a noticible difference in the engine idle). The red spot on the crankshaft pulley is for the most part 2 mms behind the 16 degree mark on the lower cover. It also seems to jump between 10-14 constantly with the jumpy rpm (shaky engine). Yes, I jumped the service connector while I was doing the adjusting and then removed the battery (reset ecu), removed shorting wire from jumper, and then restarted. No change. Car still stalls when hot and idle is jumpy.
Btw, I only got P1491 (egr problem) once and that was when my car was misfiring at WOT, so I didn't bother to clean egr valve. Did that few months ago so i should not be the cause of the idle prob.
No codes or check engine light for now.. so that's some progress. just the idle and stalling. Sometimes at the red light the engine jerks to cause the whole car lung forward and backward (like a cat just about to barf a hairball; if you've ever seen one do so, you'll know what I mean) just before stalling.
I know my front engine mount is gone (so i bend small piece of rubber hose in the hole where the bushing used to be to cushion the engine). But I don't think that's the cause of the jerky idle.
Honestly, I out of ideas and welcome any other suggestions??
