Default Hard to start after fuel up

Hey guys, got a strange problem. Whenever I fuel the car up, it cranks a lot and usually I have to have my throttle wide open. After that it runs like crap for 30-45 seconds. Just recently it's been throwing a P0132 code. Every start up after that is flawless and there's no issues with the performance of the car. It's a 99 with a d16y8, 10k on a stock cat. Thanks in advance!

Well it is an Oxygen sensor code, I would check that first, but I think there are 2 so see which one it is.

A bad Oxygen sensor can cause running problems.

The problem only occurs when I fuel up though. The code will clear with my scan tool right after. And the car drives and starts normally until I fuel up again

Is it only after a gas stop or does it do it after running into the liquor store too?

The code is for the primary O2 sensor. Fix the CEL code and then go from there.

It only happens when I fuel up the car, and it only becomes active the first start after that. The code clears and doesn't return until the next fuel up

I stand by my recommendation.

Would you recommend to r+r the sensor with a known good one?

I was leaning more towards a fault with the emissions system, like the evap? The car feels like it runs rich after I fuel up and the only way it'll run well is if I hold the throttle. If I release the throttle it chugs and sometimes stalls.

Mine used to do this too, to the point where I'd leave it running during fueling. It happened in warm weather. No CEL.

Then my headgasket let go so I swapped in my spare long block (same exact model engine and just transferred over all the ancilliaries).

The problem disappeared.

How many miles on your engine?

when you fill it up, do you top it off? Or just let the pump stop and then stop fueling?
topping off might be evap issue

Fueled up today, had to hold throttle to maintain engine but didn't get a CEL this time. There's supposedly 98k km on the engine (body has 383k km) I usually round up to the nearest dollar after it clicks, so nothing excessive - less than .5 L

Same problem but never have thrown a CEL. Let me know if you find out what is causing it. Evap system maybe but, I have no clue where to start. Any help please.

I've found it's much worse after a long drive or when it's hot. If I can fill up before the temp gauge reaches the first line it only takes 2-4 seconds to get started and the poor running/stumbling/stalling doesn't take as long to clear up. It's as if the fuel in the lines and rail aerates when the cap is opened or when the fuel is being poured in. Is there a check valve in the fuel system?
