Default New Battery Dead

Got a problem. Car is a 1996 ex running a p28 with a d15b/z6 hybrid. My battery is new and with a jump the car will run. After driving the car a short distance the batter is drained. If the car sits for a day or 2 it will start again. But then die again after a short trip.

The battery is good had it tested.

Have the alternator tested. Alternatively, measure the voltage across the two battery posts with the engine idling and no load. It should be 14v or even a little higher.

Is the alt back the car and battery turn it on and test the running output, should about 14.1 or so.

You can test it at the battery with a multi meter.

You might have something draining the car, any aftermarket stereo equip?

That is low, is it an original alt?

Did you double check to make sure it is right sized group battery? I remember I got one at Sear's and the guy gave me the wrong battery and it killed 2 alternators until I finally discovered it was the wrong battery.

That's low, if the test was done under no load. If you turn on the high beams, A/C max, and rear window defogger, what voltage do you now measure?

your alt is not charging under full load it should be putting out over 14volts. Is the batter illuminated on your cluster? Check your wiring at the terminals to the alt if it all is okay then I would suspect that the alt has gone bad

I had it tested and was told the alt is good. I cleaned the connection for the alternator. Maybe the alternator is bad? I just hate spending 100.00 if that is not the problem.

I agree. The alternator is probably bad. It's not providing adequate voltage. Also check whether 7.5A dash fuse 15 is blown.

I had a similar problem with my car. It wasn't the alternater but a bracket that holds the alternater in place broke and it would not charge my battery. I bought a new bracket and it worked perfectly.

What kind of bracket? Typically the alt has a connection and that is it.

Just makes me think, how is the belt? is it slipping, maybe the guy is referring to the alt not positioned right and not get a proper charge via the belt?

Is the problem fixed?

Also, who tested the original alt and said it was good with those low readings?

Autozone tested it.

I would say based on the new readings it should be fixed will update if the battery is dead in the next few days.

Whoever read the readings at Autozone is an idiot.
