compression test, 135 across????? good or bad
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i did a compression test, i have 135 in each cylinder, is that good or bad for a d16y8? or is the rings about to blow? a buddy said that y8 came out of the factory with 142 in each cylinder, true or false?

it runs fair, it blogs sometimes, but i dont see any smoke coming from the exhaust, i have some leaks from the oil pan gasket and the valve cover bolts, but i did notice that when i pull my dipstick i have some air coming out but its not smoke, advance auto said its just my compression from the pistons going up and down, but i do have a tap coming from my engine, im replacing the rod bearings tuesday

i did pick up a wrecked 97 hatch with a d16y7 in it, runs great, (yea sad i know) i was thinking about doing a swap but ppl on here said not to do it, but i was always told that the blocks are the same and just to swap out the heads
every compression tester reads different, the way i see it is. if all cylinder read about the same or -/+ 1-10 psi near then you should be good.
so sdr kel, your sayin that i should be good, its not like a 80 to 100 dollar tester, its just a tester i picked up from advance auto for like 25 buck or so,
Im with KEL, if your running the same numbers across the board your fine. Think of it this way, what are the chances all of the cylinders have the exact same problem creating the exact same difference in compression, pretty slim to none if I was going to take a guess.
thanks abs0lut...i was thinking of the same thing, i mean they all are dead on 135, and i was like 135 for all 4, there souldnt be a problem, and like i said i dont have like a 150 dollar snap on compression tester, its just a cheap one from advance auto, i do have a 97 hatch that i have, so i may just pull the plugs from that and see the compression and if they are about the same, i should be fine, im just thinking since its just a cheap tester, i wouldnt get the actually number that a shop will get but they will be in the same range thou
