Icon3 Is this 95 Civic EX worth buying?

So long story short, ive been a truck guy since i got my license but its not very practical and gas mileage isnt the best So i started to look for something more fuel efficent but will also be fun to drive and i can work on it still. Basially i found a 95 Honda Civic Ex, 5speed, 1.6 Vtec, 120xxx original miles, and its completly stock besides a AEM intake, headers, and flowmaster exhaust. The exterior isnt the greatest as the hood and right fender is primered and theirs a small dent in the door. Interior is clean tho! I jus need to knw if its worth it or should i look at something else.
Heres some pics...

Srry for such a long post, jus need some opinions fast!

Thanx
P.S. Srry if i put this in the wrong place!

Welcome.

Big things to look for is grins in the transmission, especially going into 3rd. Also, check the oil level before you start the car. After it warms up have someone stand behind the car and watch for smoke coming out of the exhaust as you rev it. D series engines are known for burning oil. If the oil level looks low before you start it that could be an indication that it is using oil. And it certainly would be if you see any blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.

There will probably be a few oil leaks but usually they will he due to worn gasket that can be easily replaced ie. Valve cover gasket, dizzy o ring, etc.

Yes for an all over paint job it can range between a few hundred to 3k. Honestly I would just have the hood and fender painted to match the rest of the car as the paint still looks pretty decent.

Alright, thanx man youve been alot of help. But he said the head gasket was recently replaced and top end done and has receipts to show for it. But ill test drive it and see how it all goes. But ya that would be much cheaper then redoing the whole car. Idk maybe ill jus save up so i can do the whole car down the road. Thanx for all the help!

Try shooting for under $3k. It's not bad with the mileage for the year.

Things to look for:

Suspension
Squeaks
Leaks
Grinds
Rust
Anything that is chopped/hacked up

Things to ask/know:

Suspension(shock/spring) - brand/miles
Maintenance - t-belt/w-pump/fluids
Clutch/Flywheel
How long he had the car for
Why is he selling it
What type of oil does he use
MPG
Car title - salvage/clear

Question I want to know:

Why did he removed the AC system? Looks pretty hot and sunny outside.

I'm a truck guy too and 3 years ago I bought a 96 Civic LX when the price of diesel was nearly $5 a gallon. It ain't the nicest looking or the most fun to drive vehicle around but it is so much cheaper to drive back and forth to work that I stopped caring about all that a long time ago! The only reasons the truck gets driven now is when I take the boat out, go hunting, or something is wrong with the car. I'm far from a mechanic, but my car has been pretty easy to work on and there are some very helpful guys on this site to help out with problems that are beyond my limited knowledge. Even if you don't buy the Civic you are asking about I would highly recommend finding one if you are serious about having a cheap, fuel efficient car.

to be honest i dont think 3000 is a good deal. In georgia i have found countless civic for way less than that but not with 120,000 miles. I think it would be a good deal for 2500 since it needs paint. ask him why the fender was replaced. Ask him about maintenance because low miles doesn't mean a thing if it wasn't if it wasn't maintained. try to get it from him as low as possible. just my 2cents.

He said the lowest he will go is 2800 cash. And im going to go look at it at 5:30 today... And the fender/hood was replaced cause on of his friend jumped on it lol. But its clean title and has all the paperwork/reciepts/carfax to show for it.

wih the head gasket replaced it would make me wonder if the engine ever overheated or if the rod bearings are worn. It's a good deal for 2800 though since all the maintenance has been done on it. Did he say why he is selling it? He might even be a member of this forum.
