1991 Ef Sedan
Hi, my names Dustin, I've been an avid Toyota enthusiast. My past 4 cars have been Cressidas. As of recently, I decided to sell my drift spec mx83 and cash in, purchasing a 1991 Honda Civic sedan for a couple grand.
Everything about it is fairly stock and immaculate. It's got the coldest a/c I've ever felt and emissions and is auto which will suit me considering I need a breathalizer for my dui. Anyways long story short, I needed a reliable DD too drive my kids to and from school so I got this
Shortly after purchasing it, I heard a knocking sound, so I did the most cliche thing I could, revved her up but the sound doesn't appear to be getting faster OR louder. In higher RPMs the engine sound ALONE drowns out this consistent knocking sound.
I also did the ol' wrench + ear to the block, although, I only check the top end.. no crazy sounds.
Am I guessing this could be lifter tick? But as a previous Cressida owner, that was only something I would usually HOPE for considering 9 times out of 10, it was def death knock on my stock 7ms..
Just wondering if this could be a common problem for the d15bs or anything else that might occur commonly that might cause a loud problem like this.
Any advice would be appreciated! :D

Can you post a video clip of the sound? it could be anything, but i cant help diagnose it without hearing it for myself. hondas generally run pretty quiet but you will hear the valvetrain noise because they are solid and do require occasional lash adjustment.

Sounds quality isn't the best but you can def hear the light ticking in the background, at times it even seems to cut out completetly, (which for knock would be strange)..
Thanks again!

that sounds to me like typical honda piston slap when they get some miles on them. i dont think id be too worried about that. does it go away when its fully warmed up? my old d16 91 Si sounded like that for years.
BTW check the ignition timing, being over advanced on a more worn engine will bring out more noises like that. if its set a few degrees up id bring it back to stock adjustment just to help longevity of the engine. i wouldnt say its gonna let go anytime soon, shes just showing her age a little.
