jerry rig a motor mount
whats up guys, noob here. car: 97 civic hatch
I have a knocking in my gas pedal as i press the gas. it also knocks when i press the brake.
I've come to the conclusion that it might be a motor mount. I'm trying to sell this car in the next 2 weeks, and don't want to spend any money on it. Is there a way to tighten a motor mount? Basically is there a way to make it stop knocking just long enough to sell, or pass inspection?
last question (embarrassed here)...where is the motor mount? if someone could link a pic that would be awesome
-thanks

not only is this frown upon man, but its just dangerous to the customer to jerry rig something as vital as a motor mount
you either notify the seller that the motor mount needs to be replaced, and if their anywhere near mechanically inclined, they can have it fixed theirselves
or
you can buy a new one and learn how to put it in so you can sell the car without taking any off the price
people also have done this method called "window welding" a motor mount, it'll be the cheapest option for you at this point, google "window welding motor mount"
how would you feel if someone sold you a car with a brake line jerry rigged with duct tape and one day on the highway going 80mph you lose all brake pressure...

no, i totally agree with you. i would be pissed.
i should have rephrased my question. clearly i dont have the tools or knowhow to fix this on my own unless its a quick fix (ie. tighten a few bolts).
is there a quick fix for this? is it possible the mount is just loose, or does that not happen...and its just broken.
could it be something entirely different

since you were unsure, you could simply check the mounts to see if the rubber surroundings inside the mounts are shredded apart, any seriously shredded mounts would put the engine on a slight lean, and just from visual inspection.
a bad mount will cause a very unpleasant vibration, but it will cause the shaking in the car, not the pedals

Open the hood and try rocking the motor. It should move a little, but not easily. If it moves easily, it's the mount. If it's pretty firm and the mounts look like they're all in one piece, it could be the axles.
I had a ball joint that was about to go and make a clunking noise. You need to stop driving the car, raise it up and give the suspension a good shake down also. Jack each corner of the car up, put a jack stand under it, and just grab the wheels and shake them up and down, back and forth, left and right. See if there's any play anywhere. It's low tech, simple and yet if you see where it has play, you get your answer.
