Default Best place to purchase a fuel pump? And best kind?

I have a 2001 Acura Integra LS and I need to replace the fuel pump.

I've been told that I should go ahead and put a Walbro 255 Fuel Pump in there because it's only a little more money and it will help me in the long run.

Then again, I've been told I need to run strictly OEM parts because my car is pretty much stock.

I've found an OEM one at The Parts Bin for $60.57 and that seems like a fair price.

However, I'm curious as to what the general consensus is from H-T.
Thanks guys!

If you aren't planning on a forced induction system at some point in the future I'd recommend you stick with OEM. You can order from:

oemacuraparts.com
acuraoemparts.com

AFAIK the stock pump should be OK up to 215-ish whp, and quieter and probably more reliable as well.

They only sell a "Fuel Pump Unit," which is $287.83.
Does that sound right?

Ugh, if it's that much you should just get a Walbro. Sorry, I forgot they were so expensive...

The pump from the parts bin isn't an OEM unit. It is an aftermarket stock replacement ie: junk. Just ge the walbro. They are tried and true to last and if you do more upgrades down the road you won't have to do the pump again. If you want a quieter unit, go with the Walbro 190 lph pump.

^^+1 good price if the sponsor is still selling...

if you never plan on doing upgrades get a 190 like someone else said, as its a little quieter.

255s are easier to find, though. if you don't really care (i wouldn't) just pick one of those up. i wouldn't bother with an OEM unit, and this is coming from someone that swears on OEM parts a lot of the time...

i bought one a couple months ago from that link. it's a direct fit. uses the oem plug and mount. really couldn't be easier and the price was outstanding.

Awesome, thanks guys! $79.99 for a Walbro 255 sounds great.

I also, however, have another question. I have a 2-Door Integra, so as you guys well know, I don't have to drop my tank to replace the fuel pump. Although, I've been told it's best if I drop it anyway and clean it out best I can. Just spray the inside with a pressure washer, then let it all drain out and let it dry in the sun for a day or two.

Thoughts?

do not drop your tank, and do not pressure wash the inside with water, the door for the fuel pump is right under your back seats, google the directions for changing the fuel pump, its a 10 minute job, hardest part is putting the back seats back in. Work cleanly, if there is any loose rust or anything on top of the area you are working, vacuum it off first, spray it down with brake clean if need be to get any dirt or grease off, clean it up before you pop the tank open, if you are worried about moisture getting in the tank, throw in a bottle of valvoline water remover and your good to go.

Thank you very much for that information.
I was aware that the door was below my back seats and to be honest, I planned on leaving the back seats out anyway, simply because I'm one of those types of people who doesn't like more than 1 person in the car.

The reason I was told to drop the tank was to clean out the "trash" that was in it, although I didn't really plan on doing it anyway. I'm glad you re-assured me.

As soon as I can get the money for it, I'll buy it and let you guys know how it goes.

theres not gona be any "trash" in your tank, trust me, not unless you use the most rank *** fuel known to man lol im talkin bottom of the barrel ****, in which case your car probably wouldnt even run anyway. The fuel pump comes with a new strainer anyway, just make sure you attach it properly, the straight keeps out any particulates that might be in the tank as a result of every day use. Almost 200k on mine and my strainer was damn near perfectly clean when i swapped my OEM pump for my walbro 255 (non hp)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, fuel comes from the fuel tank, through the strainer, into the fuel pump, through the lines, into/through the fuel filter, then into the injectors, correct?

If so, then my fuel pump strainer/filter would have to be dirty for my fuel filter to be dirty... and when I swapped my fuel filter, it was absolutely disgusting.

Then again, I could be completely wrong about all of that.

your fuel strainer is a large particle filter that strains out anything that could potentially damage the pump, your fuel filter is a micron filter, something like an air filter basically with like 98% efficiency for microscopic particles. Your injectors also have little filters on top of them to prevent any particulates from entering the the injector itself. Its a compound system of filtration but having a dirty fuel filter doesnt necessarily mean that your tank is trashy. Just normal sediment from gas moving through the system. If you took it out to clean it, it would be the same way 6 months later just from gas being in the system. Still there is nothing really that needs cleaning.

also, depending on the grade of gasoline that you use, the gas itself will have a cleaning effect on the whole system, i dont know if youve had any experience with direct injection cars, but the reason the intake valves on them gunk up so fast is because they dont have gasoline spraying on them to clean them off. So the gunk from the PCV and EGR system tend to stick and stay on the valves where as in EFI the gas is sprayed directly above the intake valve, cleaning the port and the valve under normal use.

Well, maybe I should describe my problem to you... because I may not even need a fuel pump.

Basically, when in Neutral, I can rev 6k+ perfectly fine.
However, upon driving the car (especially if the car is cold), I have to press the gas pedal down farther than normal to get the car to go and it feels very sluggish, even doing some kind of misfiring-TYPE thing (it's not a misfire), where the rpms jump up and down once I reach 4500+RPMs... almost like something is blocking it from getting gas.

That's the best way I know how to describe it. It's getting dark now, but tomorrow I plan on making a video for everyone to see/watch and help me out better.

if you had a totally plugged fuel filter, changed that already i would pull the injectors and check the screens. you could just have a bunch of crap stuck in the fuel system

Alright, I'll definitely give that a try. Thank you for the input. I'll do it sometime in a couple of hours and post here with the results. Hopefully I just have some clogged injectors rather than having to replace my fuel pump... though I feel as if it's a good idea to do it anyway.
