out of the blue and all of a sudden today

my driver door will not open

the door lock clicks up and down and "sounds" like something internal is moving and clicking
but the door wont open

is there some way I can open it?
I tried to remove the door panel but it wont come off in closed position

what is goin on?

any ideas?

98 civic lx 4 door

did you try the key? i had a short once that locked my doors and when i would unlock them they would reloc so i took the fuse out. can u take the handle out and tug on the bar. inside or out.

 

I tried the key it makes the manual lock go up and down but door handle still seems NOT to engage

I tried to remove door handle cover (removed screw) and the cober panel wont budge
weird

 

The lock failed. I've seen this happen before on my friends hatch. He had to remove the door panel and drill through the latch until it let go.....this is how the dealer does it as well. It did not look fun at all LOL.

the little panel o er the door handle on the inside has to slide left or right there is a hook like thing and then it pops out.

 

so rip the door panel off and drill the lock out from ths inside?

 

Do what this guy^ says to remove the inner handle. Also remove the power window switch unit. Through these holes in the door panel, you may gain access to and be able to pull on the inner handle rod and latch rods, which may allow you to open the door.

 

ok removed both of those components, I did pull directly on the rod that the inner handle was connected to and nothing happened

going to see if I can access anything thru the power window switch hole

lol @ climbing in and out like the Dukes!

 

well I pulled the whole door panel back enough to get in
all the rods are connected

I moved them all and they seem to work properly

it seems as if the lock latch itself failed internally somewhere
I cant see anyway of getting in there and drilling it out
this is gonna be tough

the same thing happened in my 93 civic on friday. i closed the door, drove home and couldnt get out when i got home. i've been pulling a dukes of hazzard since then and i seriously am so lost. i tried all of the things you did and got no where

 

try to get closer to the latch if u can, maybe go t junkyard source a new door, or at least interior panel cut a hole closer to the front to enable you to get to the lock mechanism to try to mess with some more, or drill it grind it whatever u can to remove it to open the door and put a new one on there is probably a better way then this but you sound desperate

 

I yanked the whole door panel back and could see the mechanism real good
everything looks to be in order all rods connect and operate

all I can think is maybe something internal of the lock mech broke

 

It's time for small explosives or a BFH.

 

or sell the car ;-0

 

Try tapping on the latch while working lock/unlock rod.

 

Finally figured out my door. I bought a used door at a junk yard and ripped mine apart from the inside. The lock mechanism was stuck together and just put the used door on once i got mine off.
