I have a 2001 Civic LX with 148k on it and I've been having a problem starting it from time to time. Sometimes it starts up fine and others it turns over and sounds like it's going to start but then dies then I do give it a little gas and it starts right up. It's also idling at about 500-600 rpms and it vibrates the car when idling but if I give it a little gas it's smooth.

The check engine light has been on and it flashes sometimes when I'm stopped just idling.

Just looking for some idea's of what it could be... fuel pump/filter? fuel injectors? timing belt? Any help would be great. My dad and I just changed the spark plugs, and adjusted the valves.

 

Oh additional info there are 4 check engine codes that come up and they are all of the misfire ones. In each of the cylinders. But the engine isn't misfiring at least doesn't sound like it is. I'd think you'd notice by sound and performance. It drives just fine once you get out of idling.

 

go get a tune up change your fuel filter. what ever the problem is thats causing the misfire is a part thats linked to all cylinders

 

Agreed, sounds like a fueling issue. Change Filter as stated above and report back.
