Default Waterborne paint question

Hey guys here in canada i guess its like you boys in cali we cant buy anything but waterborne paint in a spray can

Question i have is im in a remote area were it will take me near a week to get more paint for the car.

Im fixing my engine bay and i epoxy primed it and only have one can of 400ml of the oem ACURA color match base.

I was wondering can i use some acrylic laquer as my first coat then my final coats with the water borne paint ? then the clear ?

Thanks

No sure with other brands but with ppg envirobase i know if you spray solvent base down then waterborne on top of solvent base coat, even after the solvent is completely dry it will wrinkle and fish eye like a bat out of hell.So the answer to your question would be no.however i would get some primer sealer (PPG NCS sealer) shrinks very little, comes in different shades white, gray, black and spray that down first and then your base coat.base coat will cover a lot faster over sealer because your not trying to fill in 400-800 grit scratches with base. The sealer i listed above is not wet on wet so it will work for waterborne.spray it on let it flash then wait 15/30 min the go in and spray your base.Just curious what brand waterborne do you have.I DON'T recommend using any type of lacquer paint do to being able to make it re-soluble and it shrinks like a mother, especially primer.

Ya.I would give you a place you could get paint supply's but you live in Canada.
Never heard of that paint before. If I had to choose between solvent or waterborne
I would choose water because its half the film build, and it covers faster and with most water born it only take 2 coats, plus a control coat to get good coverage.Only thing with water is that you have to get the surface free of everything, and you cant use solvent based wax and grease remover do a final wipe before you spray, because it will make the water fish eye.You can buy a waterborne surface cleaner but most of the time it is expensive,so instead you can use Windex or some type of silicon free glass cleaner to wipe down the surface. Also not sure about Canada, but it the U.S. you can no longer through wax and grease remover rags into the trash, you have to get a EPA certified company to come depose of them, however you can still through Windex rags into the garbage.
