i have a 98 honda civic ex vtec, and it drove just fine on monday and tuesday i went under to put in a short shifter i got it in just fine put it all back how it was and when the car is off it goes through the gears smoothly but when i start up the car it dont want to go into the gears?

any suggestions on what to look into?

 

Clutch linkage engaging?

 

Spongy clutch pedal?

 

yeah i was able to ingage the linkage while under the car with my hands, and the clutch was normal, not spungy and not too stiff

 

When you can change gears fine with the engine off but not with it running, then you should focus first on the master and slave cylinder and bleeding the hydraulic system. If those are fine, then there's possibly a pressure plate problem.

 

so i should try and bleed the hydrolic system? is there a thread about that i could find?

 

Yes, start there. I use the $4 one man brake bleeder tool.
