Painting valve cover
So i've got a 92 accord ex and i want to paint my valve cover, what kind of paint should i use and do i need to sand it or anything like that? Also give me some ideas on what to paint, color, design, etc.... Any tips on doing this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

my 2 cents: i like to get down to bare metal with paint stripper. it can be nasty stuff, but for me it's much easier than sanding it all off. almost any paint will work (from the autoparts store, or good enamel from anywhere else). what matters most is prep and application. be sure everything is clean and dry, free of dirt/dust/grease and lay down several thin even coats with a slightly heavier coat at the end.

i know a guy that owns a powder coating shop and i got my valve cover painted bright red. this would be the best, most durable option. but it is also a little more expensive. i only got it powder coated because he offered to do it for free.
as for color, i think the red looks pretty good. i will eventually clean off the letters on it but im too scared to mess up my paint, lol

An 8" or 12" Flat Bastard/double cut file is very good at removing paint from the raised letters. It works fast and does not require a lot of effort. That is if you don't want to take chances of making mistakes with a power tool.
