Default Looking at buying first civic, tall driver

I am currently driving a honda pilot to and from work but I just changed jobs and my commute just doubled to 40 miles per day. The entire drive is city streets with lots of stop and go. The crap mileage of the pilot is killing me and I am getting about 15mpg. Lets just say I am looking for a older civic for my new commuter.

Well here is my dilemma, I am 6 foot 2 and I am about 280lbs. I fit just fine in my pilot and my wifes 2007 altima but I am a little worried about a civic. I am looking at either a 5th or 6th gen civic but I prefer the 5th gens because they get better mileage. I would love to find a unmolested vx hatch but its pretty much a unicorn. I wish people would stop messing with these and use a cx for their modding. I am also fine with a 5th gen cx but having less HP, ~70hp and lower mpg than the vx kinda sucks

I remember driving my sisters 96 2 door civic with a sunroof and I fit fine. I also use to have a 2001 prelude and the leg room was fine but my head was always touching the roof. It was probably not the best car for someone of my height but it sure was fun. The other honda I had was a 95 2 door EX accord with a 5 speed and it was very roomy. I would get another accord but the mileage for the F22 was not that great. I use to another average about 22 city and I got maybe 30 on highway.

Here are my questions
Are the 5th gens any smaller behind the wheel than the 6th gens?
Does it make a difference in leg room between a 2 or 4 door?
What about head room between a 5th and 6th gen?

Thanks for any help I may get. I might as put this out there, is there anyone in socal looking at selling a unmolested or very lightly molested 5 speed civic.? My max budget is $3000. The car needs to be a 5th gen or newer. I just moved to San Diego and it seems like there is always a good chance that the person you are talking to online lives in socal.

I would look into a 8th Generation Civic. Newer, safer, bigger and still economical. Of course you're getting 15mpg on a V6 Pilot with stop and go driving. It's not crap, it's actually decent.

Edit: Nvm, you're budget is out of the question.

96-00 Civic Dx is your best bet with AC/PS.

GL.

he only wants to spend $3K. That's enough for anything year 2000 and older. And it so happens to be the best years of the Civic ever made.

people think that cuz its a small car, they don't fit.. but civic seats sit really low so they allow for a lot more head room

Thanks for the input. I will probably go with a 6th gen because I can install a scan gauge in it to help with my mileage. My goal with this car is to sip gas and I don't care if its slow. I have had my fast cars before, 01 prelude, 99 GSR, and I kind have out grown it. I never cared for the tickets or insurance. I had my GSR when I was 21 and I think my payment was around $380 and the insurance was about $400. I could not stand paying more for insurance than the payment.

I have checked out the market place and everyone seems to over value there rides. I think I saw a 91 civic si for $4500 with over 200K miles. I am sorry but a 20 year old car is not worth that much and they are not that rare (my guess). If he gets that much thats awesome and it would make me wish I listed my prelude on here. I had a 2001 electron blue pearl type sh prelude that was 100% stock down to the stereo. The car was mint and it had about 100K miles even. It took me months to sell it and I was only able to get $6500. If you are the guy selling the civic I hope you understand my frustration. I would like to buy my civic from a site where if the seller rips me off then everyone would hear about it. I may have to stick with craigslist.

I am sorry about my ranting.

Worst case scenario find some Del Sol seats for your 5th gen.

I ended up getting a 92 VX pretty cheat. It was in a light front end acident but all it damaged was the hood, fender, and bumper. The previous owner already replaced the fender. The rest of it can wait because this is only a commuter. My next question is on replacing my front seats. They are in ok shape with no tears but the side bolsters are hard and it would be nice if the seat was an inch or 2 lower. Are there any seats that I can replace mine with that will be a little more comfortable than mine and will be lower? When I had a 87 4runner I replaced the seats with integra ls seats and they where much lower and very comfortable. Let me know what opinions everyone has.

I like Integra seats. CRX seats are supposed to sit low. Or just cut and modify the rails so it sits lower.

At 6'3" and 215 I drive a 95 civic si hatch with integra seats that sit low and I still have room to move the driver seat back.

So the integra seats sit lower for sure than the stock seats? I guess I will start looking for a set. I can also make some of my money back because my seats are still in good condition and with a nice cleaning they could look near new.
