06 civic keeps overheating
I have had my 95 Honda civic until 2 weeks ago when it finally broke down so I purchased a 2006 Honda Civic the next day. After having it for 1 week it started to overheat on my way home from work. The thermostat fluctuated from 1/2 to 3/4 the entire 45 minutes home. I checked the coolant when I got home and it was completely empty. The next day I took it to the dealership and they ran a coolant pressure test and said that everything was fine it probably just need coolant. It worked fine this past week until yesterday it started overheating again. Checked the coolant and it was fine. The resevoir was a little lower than before. I took it back to the dealership today and they said there was no leak. The mechanic said that the thermostat probably became stuck because of the extreme heat and if it does it again to bring it back it. I feel like I am getting the run around. What could the problem be? The engine seems to be in great shape. The car still runs fine (other than the overheating) and there are no other symptoms. I just cant figure out what could be wrong.
I would take it back and tell them to change the stat, and make them check the fan control system, making sure everything is right,
If it were my car I was add a fan switch, just a good switch that could handle the amps the cooling fan uses, then when it is extremely hot outside you can use the switch instead of causing damage to the engine.
