Subaru to join Speed World Challenge in 2003

There will be 2 Subaru 2.5RS in WC next year.
Personally I wish the team would only run 1 car, and put the extra money into development of the car, then run 2 when it is sorted.
Im curious what you guys think of the car in WC. I dont follow it as closely and Im not as familiar with the rules as some of you. Does the car have a chance of being competitive? It is the new GD chassis which is heavier than the old (~3000lb in street trim) but it is incredibly stiff. The 2.5L engine is not known for its ability to make horsepower, it was originally designed as a torquey motor to pull those Outbacks and Forresters. Most people cant get much more than 200hp NA out of it, and obviously a race team will be able to develop the engine further, but I still dont think it is able to match the 270hp of the mazdas.
any thoughts?

I would see the weight as more of a problem than power. Same problem in the end I guess...
I wonder how much of an advantage AWD will be at this power level... It would also be interesting to know what type of support, if any, Subaru is offering.

It's about time
I've been waiting to see the AWD in WC. I think they will do pretty good, but the weight might be a disadvantage as far as I can see. Look at the 2.0L mazdas pulling away from the Bimmers. Even Will Turner (BMW) was mentioning that they pulled on him pretty hard on the straights.

Every new manufacturer in Touring is a good thing but it is a steep hill to climb. The $$ required to develop engines to the degree currently required is HUGE - ask the Hagestad VW folks. I don't know much about the boxer four but they aren't going to have anyone else's knowledge base to mooch off of. The GOOD news is that the STC rules are pretty flexy - if a case can be made for a lower weight, there is room for the ProRacing staff to grant it.

Edit - wasn't the Audi that won at Sears Pt. AWD?

Stasis Engineering already took a win in the Touring class this year. They run a '97 2.8L (older) 12V A4 Quattro. They only make about 175 stock and weigh about 3300 lbs from the factory.

Flynn is soliciting funding to possibly extend the team to three cars, with the hopes of entering a third Subaru, this time in the SPEED GT Championship of World Challenge. The SPEED GT car would be the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, set to be introduced into the United States in June of 2003.

I've been wondering when that was going to happen.

Would a WRX in touring be too much of an overdog? I was thinking with strict regulations on engine, turbo, and boost (ie- bone stock) it would only put out similar power as the mazdas and bimmers. And it is at the same consumer price point as ITRs RSX-Rs, and the BMWs, so it would make sense (to me) for the wrx to be eligible. (but I guess the whole FI thing is an issue there too....)
Look at the link in my sig. We will get the new design. No more bugeyes

But at least we will be seeing a Impreza in something besides rally. They are probably waiting for the STi so they wont have to spend 8k on the 6spd.

There are no turbo cars in Touring. Only GT allows turbos.
At Laguna Seca there was a Audi A4 running. Couldn't tell if it was AWD or FWD and if it was a 1.8t or V6 2.8 model.
