91 Crx Dx My First Rex
Hey guys heres some pictures of my first rex.. I waited five months for this car! The previous owner is a friend of mine who was supposed to fix it! I finally picked it up! It looked like this!

The seatbelts didn't latch in on the female ends so I got new ones direct from Honda for $20 each and cleaned the interior! So it looked like this!
Then I got new pads, rotors, and brake hoses...All cheap stuff till i get the car sorted out... The pads are still ceramic though... Unfortunately at the end of this process I am left with the always on brakelights syndrome... Im guessing the switch on the brake pedal or a ground! Help me get clear on this!!!
Lastly i have an ignition problem.. I can jump the starter and it runs fine or clutch start it.. I'm in way over my head in electrical issues, so any advice is welcomed!
So here are some updated pictures with my current wheels! I pulled them off an eg I once owned! Not sure if I liked black or white so I did both!

:-0 for west virginia the cars actually in decent shape! Turns out the problem with the brake lights was the plastic piece on the pedal that actually hits the switch, I fixed that with two pennies and some tape! I ordered the plastic pieces from Honda for $2 each (1 on brake and one on clutch) and I'll fix it properly when I can! King, the answer to your question is $300 including all this stuff!

1. Head with a couple burnt valves+valvecover (not shown)
2. Distributor needs new rotor
3. Plug wires
4. Intake Manifold
5. Airbox
6. Haynes Manual
Just ran it for about an hour or two pretty hard (for me hard is like 4,000rpms) and no signs of overheating and drove quite well... I'm in love! And even if she ain't much to look at to others, she's a supermodel to me and sooo fun to drive!!!

if your planning on sticking with that motor then slap a vtec head on there, convert it to OBD1 and put a D16Y8 manifold on there and a 4-2-1 header. u wana go farther turbo it. im not too good to ask questions for in that department. or put a bigger motor in it. but that DPFI **** sucks. ive owned 2 hondas with DPFI and when i got my CRX SI with the MFPI i noticed a big difference. just my two cents tho. the car looks like its in good condition tho just slight rust. at least its not dented or damaged. i bought my crx and the fenders were starting to fold in when ud open the doors and got all ****ed off
Mista, just wanted to say thanks for sharing your advice. I've actually got a y8 head i could throw on there at some point, but for now I'm just gonna run it as is since its running pretty good... I'll consider the head swap and obd1 with mpfi at that time, but for now I actually enjoy driving this car! In the mountains here we have a pretty extreme environment to drive in that exposes the weakness in any car! That said, the dpfi d15b2 in this crx is "quicker" up the hills and such than the y8 in my 96 civic ex! I'm hoping to drive this car until I can rebuild the ek just mentioned, then when its ready as a daily, then I'll consider modifying this one! Till then its all about mechanical... I do plan on staying d-series for quite a while, so I have some ideas for mods that are good later on as well... I have a cheap 4-2-1 and a y8 exhaust manifold to chose from... Mostly plan on braking and suspension and interior stuff for now! Any suggestions are appreciated however!

the intake manifold from a d16y8 is what you want. i got a SI with a y8 manifold on the D16A6. lol and yeah dont let ur tires get bald. especially in the back. lol i had bald back tires and i was driving in the snow in denver and im lucky no one was in the intersection but i merged over to get out of the LH turning lane and i merely corrected the wheel when merging and i did a epic spinout LOL. i so thought i was gona hit something but im lucky i was by myself in the intersection or it woulda been another episode of people at the junkyard lookin at my rex wonderin what the hell happened. i love my rex even tho its a pain in the *** with the work ive had to do to it. but their fun
I'll do some more research before I bother anyone with silly technical questions... I have recently started a job at a local junkyard and so will have access to stuff, so i'll definitely be looking to get stock parts that are upgrades... I've heard the y8 exhaust manifold is also a good upgrade for lower d-series motors! I've got a 90 crx si that just came in that I'm looking at scoring things from! Let me know if there's something I should pick up! (other than replacement seats for all the captain obvious types out there!!!)
ebay ones are junk they crack n **** easily
i have a y8 header right now n i love it
had a shitty 421 ebay on there it was junk
dont waste your money
if there is a si there grab the mpfi **** just in case

300 bucks! That's awesome! This looks like the start of a great thread.
Also, I worked at a salvage yard once. I hated that job. Nine bucks an hour for coming home every night sore and soaked in gas and antifreeze. I quit after a month. Good luck!

My job at the salvage yard is in inventory, so its not so bad! I was having trouble with the fuel pump on start up, but only on hot days... I replaced the main relay and now its quick and easy! I have an ebay header just sitting here that I may try just for fun, but it wouldnt line up properly for my ek (which is what I bought it for), so maybe I'll have better luck on the rex... Do you guys have to use flex pipe to run cheap headers? Got a whole list of things I need to work out, but one thing at a time!
if you have any soldering skill you can resolder the main relay board and itll be like new again. hondas have that problem. solder joints crack and create intermittent connections when it gets hot
Nice crx. I'm looking for something similar. maybe with a little less work that needs done though. keep up the good work.
post #1 on my new account ftw! I havent been on here in a while and couldnt remember my old user name / password so Im starting fresh.

Havent updated in a little while... Figured out the no start issue was a plastic piece on the clutch pedal that contacts the clutch safety switch... Replaced that and starts right up... I ordered a new hood relase cable and housing... New housing for the gas/trunk release and trunk release cable as well.. Also picked this stuff up at work!
Also, I replaced the hood hinge on passenger side as it was broken, switched in my freshly painted black valve cover. I've driven the car about 30 hours now with no problems including about four 2-3 hour trips... Doing deliveries in a mountainous WV town, I did 30 mpg and spirited driving on country roads I counted 40.... I can't wait to see highway mileage! I'm loving it....
Nice crx. I just bought my first rex - an 88 dx. I've had to spend money on tuneup, tires, tie rods, brakes, fuel pump, etc. After the repairs, I got 35 mpg the first tank and less than 30 the second tank. I'm really hoping it will go back up to 35, because I bought this as a daily driver.
Yeah. That's why I don't understand the CRZ. If Honda really wants to figure out how to improve their MPGs, they should look back a couple of decades- at their own cars.
So I got those interior pieces all put in and I ordered some new amber (not orange) corners.. One night while driving the distributor went out out, so the one that was given to me with the car came in quite handy.. I had the fuel system pressure checked and it was good... Also new plugs, wires, and rotor button...
Not much to update here really, but figured I'd fill you all in... I replaced the hood and trunk releases and a window regulator... Lost my exhaust somehow and have yet to replace it... I'm still looking for some seats to swap in.... Driving it a bunch for deliveries and making some money with her... Within the next two or three months I'll probably have some more to mention but for now just some pics!
