Default D4 Light on Tranny Selector Doesn't Light

The D4 light for the tranny selector on the dash of my 92 Accord (204,000 miles) doesn't come on when putting the tranny into gear. All other indicators light up depending on the gear.

Also, the car is developing a hard shift from 1st to 2nd depending on how hard you accelerate. If you put your foot in it, the car will shudder. Tranny fluid has been changed supplied by Honda, no change. The fluid that came out was burn't and not bright red.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Richard

Replace the bulb, then check for codes.

No TCU Codes, Check mounts, throttle control cable. If the fluid was that bad, I'd also suggest one or two more drain and fills of the trans.

Check to see if the the D4 lights for 2 seconds like the CEL does at start up, this will tell you if the bulb is burnt out. I am leaning towards the Gear Position Selector Switch, which could be faulty. How many drain and fills did you do w/ the new Honda fluid? As stated above you may need to do a couple more drain and fills w/ the new fluid. It may take some time for the new fluid to leach into the clutch packs and give a better shift feel or it may never change due to what sound like an over extended trans fluid change interval.

Similar problem with mine.. I think its just the bulb gone.. All the other bulbs work, I have no codes and no transmission problems that I can detect..

Not worth my trouble of taking out the cluster just to change the bulb either.. If its not lit, then im in D4, simple as that..

Different trans with different nuances.
Best to beg/borrow/steal a OBDII code reader and check for any stored codes.
