Let me start by saying thank you all for all the great info on this forum. Ive been reading it for a while silently and its helped me out a ton. Now my question is, whats the thing under the stock intake tube. I have a 96 ex vtec. I think i need to remove it to make the short ram fit. Thanks!

The box circled in red is what i'm talking about. I know it's not the filter housing because i already removed that. It's connected to the bottom of the intake tube via the tube with the yellow arrow pointing at it.

It is an intake resonator, you have to get rid of it when installing the Short Ram. It opens in VTEC (and I believe in full throttle)to make you car quieter. And don't forget to close the vacuum port on the valve when you remove the resonator (you'll see what I am talking about). What kind of intake are you putting on?

But i'm putting an aem filter on it instead of the supplied generic one.

Short rams make the car sound a lot better. Cool, never use those cheap filters, they're crap.
