Icon6 89 Accord FI Automatic - Shutters violently on take off

I've always owned manual trans cars so i dont know or care to know anything about automatic transmissions but now i've got an 89 accord with an auto trans and here's what's happening.

sometimes it runs fine without any problem but other times while in the drive gear giving it a little gas to take off from a light or whatever it will shudder violently. it feels a lot like wheel hop when you hold a front wheel burnout too long and the whole car starts shaking but the wheesl are not spinning or even turning hardly at all. my assumption is it's the transmission but i want to be sure before i swap it out.

i've searched quite a bit and most people with "similar" symptoms are being told it's the egr ports being clogged but i dont think we are experiencing the same kind of shudder. so im wondering if anyone has any insight into this issue. thanks!
